2009 Beneficiaries
This Year’s Beneficiaries:
ShelterBox
respond
instantly to earthquake, volcano, flood, hurricane,
cyclone, tsunami or conflict by delivering boxes of
aid.
Each
box supplies an extended family of up to 10
people with a tent and lifesaving equipment to use
while they are displaced or homeless. The contents are
tailored depending on the nature and location of the
disaster, with great care taken sourcing every item to
ensure it is robust enough to be of lasting value.

Highly
trained ShelterBox Response Teams distribute boxes on
the ground, working closely with local organisations,
international aid agencies and Rotary clubs worldwide.
Since
its inception in 2000, ShelterBox has firmly
established itself at the forefront of international
disaster relief, providing emergency shelter for the
people who need it most on every continent. Read more

Rotary continues to support numerous local causes aimed
at children, our schools, and our community.
In the current economic times, funding for these
causes is under tremendous pressure, but we believe we
should do everything we can to preserve the magic of
childhood for our community’s children.
Help
is needed by your neighbors…

PolioPlus
- Over the last twenty years, the Global Polio
Eradication Initiative, supported by donations from the
Rotary Foundation and the work of thousands of Rotary
volunteers, has reduced the number of cases from 350,000
per year to fewer than 2,000—a better-than 99%
reduction. Polio
is now endemic in only four countries:
Afghanistan
,
India
,
Nigeria
, and
Pakistan
. Some may
ask shouldn’t we spend money on other diseases,
isn’t this enough?
No, we believe it is not.
We live in a globally-connected world with
viruses that are no respecters of international borders.
In 2005, four non-vaccinated children in the
U.S.
contracted polio but recovered - the source of the
disease, a country where the disease was still endemic.
We need to go the “last inch” and end polio
forever. Rotary
has accepted a challenge grant from the Bill and Melinda
Gates Foundation, which spans two more years and which
will result in a joint contribution of over half a
billion dollars to eradicate polio, reducing the number
of cases to that magic number, zero!
Thank
you for helping us give this priceless gift to the
children of the world and their parents by supporting Polio Plus. Read more

ViNA
-
In
Africa
, women and children are walking miles to collect water
from heavily-polluted muddy, brown puddles, full of
bacteria and parasites.
We are already at work building 15 water wells in
Uganda
to bring fresh water to thousands of people.
This year we want to expand this program and give
others not only fresh water but hope and the opportunity
it will bring to improve the economy of the region. Your
support will bring the precious gift of fresh water to
these children and hope to this impoverished community.
So,
thank you for your support.
We promise that our Tenth Taste of Claremont will
be a great party, a lot of fun, and a way to make the
world just a little bit better. Read more
